Playhouse in Santa Ana is a must have bucket list! I don't post too much as you may know, mainly due to the fact that I don't like to post negative reviews. So when I post, it means something. I just had the best Lamb (Berber Spiced Rack of Suckling Lamb) ever in my life at the Playground.
It had just the right spiciness, cooked to perfection, the best seasoning, this Lamb was fricking awesome! I also had a really baby lettuce salad with fall fruit (whatever fall fruit is), it was fantastic! The fall fruit is like persimmons, but not dry but juicy and it had cranberries and beets. The Wild of the Sea fish was sweet, buttery and delicious.
The mushrooms were the best and made the fish. We closed the meal with a toffee desert that was out of this world!
Three thumbs up to the chef! The playground looks like a hip micro brewery bar, but don't let that fool you! Behind the walls is one of the best chefs around that knows how to cook! I always say this, don't trust me, trust yourself! Try it, you're like it Mikey!
Sorry no pics, I know it would have made a huge difference but when I started the meal, I had no intention of posting a review. Life is full of surprises! Playground has long been a big player in the OC food scene. I have been here a few times, but for some reason when 2.0 opened, my review got moved over there.
So here we go again. It used to be a small and intimate space but they recently tripled the size. There is a bar which is first come first served, and some seating on the outdoor patio as well. Reservations are still recommended. The servers are always very knowledgeable despite the fact that the menu changes daily.
I believe the ingredients are picked up every day from local markets. Sometimes the dishes will be similar but could have a few different ingredients, or a dish may be completely gone from one day to the next. They will not substitute or modify any dish, but will willingly take something back if you dislike it. Food comes out when ready and is best enjoyed tapas style, so bring a few people with you. The bartenders are genuine and talented. Not only are the menu cocktails delicious, but they will work with you to make something you like if nothing catches your fancy. Beer and wine are also available.
I won't get into what I ordered since you most likely won't find the same dish when you go, but everything we ordered was complex, with bold flavors that perfectly complemented each other. Playground features uncommon ingredients in unique combinations, and you can tell that they like to experiment and have fun with their food through a well-developed wealth of culinary knowledge.
Awesome atmosphere and fantastic food! No corkage fee for the first bottle of wine that you bring. The dishes here are meant to be shared and everything comes out as soon as they're done preparing it. Everything that we ordered was delicious! The service was pretty good as well. Reservations are required. Hokkaido scallops were very light, but packed with flavor.
The seaweed gave it a nice finish and left a very refreshed feeling in your mouth. Brussel sprouts were roasted perfectly and was a great dish to share. It's a bit oily though so be prepared for each bite to give you a foodgasm.
The wild mushroom fried rice was the star of the show. Light, yet full of truffle flavor! It was my favorite dish of the night. The maple glazed pork chop was too much for me.
It was pricey (of course) and it was way too sweet. It was huge and definitely can feed 2-4 people. It wasn't my decision to order this, but honestly it tasted like a pancake, which was super weird since it's pork. I was done after two bites.
Food didn't impress me, but the good service, large restaurant interior, and late hours are appreciated. I wanted to love it here, but the food was just overly flavored/ salty for my taste. I tried: -Brussel sprout caesar: overly salted. I felt like I make better sprouts at home.Chicken: overly salted. I also feel like I can make better chicken at home. $12 when I can buy a whole pack of drumsticks for $6.Udon: it was okay. Go to a udon or ramen place for your noodle fix!
-Sweet potato dish: this dish was good. The potatoes weren't overly saturated with flavor and the toppings really accentuated the dish. Overall, both my and bf and I thought the food was lacking. We probably won't be back. Plus parking was hard to find.Jonathan Gold's #87 of LA (2017): Playground.4-4.5 stars.Wednesday Night Dinner Review: 10/25/17. Jonathan Gold officially released the 2017 edition of his famous '101 Best Restaurants' list of Los Angeles just 2 days ago.
Playground once again made the ranks, despite being outside of Los Angeles County. Only a few restaurants in Orange County make the list each year.
Ranked #66 last year, this restaurant has been on my radar for a while. Being that I moved to Orange County almost a year ago now, it was about time I gave this place a try.
Came here tonight for dinner for my first time. We did not have reservations, but that was not a problem. Indoor seating would have required an hour long wait, and bar seating was full with first-come first-served accommodations, but the outdoor patio was wide open. We opted for the patio seating option and were seated right away. The weather was perfect, anyways.
Service was great. Every worker we encountered throughout the night was friendly, accommodating, helpful, and genuine. The menu had some great options, which I'm told changes daily based on available ingredients and chef inspiration. They seem to have a lot of fun here, which is fitting considering their name, Playground. Our order consisted of Peruvian Ceviche ($24), Roasted Savoy Cabbage Cooked In Wasabi Miso Butter ($10), Wagyu Sirloin Lomo Saltado ($34), and Charcoal Grilled Pork Collar Marinated With Sweetened Condensed Milk ($28). Prices are a little hefty, but for a good restaurant, this seemed appropriate.
For drinks, I was all in on the Eagle Rock POPULIST IPA ($6). Their draft beers were all priced at $6, which is pretty reasonable these days. The food was pretty good.
Honestly, a little underwhelming. This place has a lot of hype, which I completely understand, but I'm not sure that I was entirely impressed tonight.
The flavors were way too strong on every dish I tried. So strong that I started to burn my tastebuds after a few quick bites of each dish. If I were to pick a favorite, I'd have to go with the wagyu. The meat was extremely juicy and tasty. The ceviche is my runner up, though I was pretty disappointed by the quantity.
All in all, Playground is definitely worth checking out. The menu is very fun and the atmosphere fits. The food is good, but nothing to rave home about. Prices are decent considering the quality and preparation.
The dishes are presented beautifully and there is obvious attention to detail. Service was on point throughout the night. I would return, but not in a major rush. Went here for dinner to celebrate my 21st birthday with my boyfriend! I had a really great experience and ordered my first legal drinks here!
I can honestly say I truly enjoyed all of the dishes I ate. All of them tasted amazing and I would order them again if I could. They always change up their menu though so I'm not sure if my favorites will still be there the next time I come. My boyfriend and I ordered the Potato Rossi with Smoked Sablefish Cream, Wild Mushroom & Melted Leek Risotto, Brussel Sprout Caesar, and the one thing that never leaves the menu. Uncle Lou's Fried Chicken!
Loved, loved, loved the Potato Rossi, Risotto, and Brussel Sprouts! If you ever see those on their menu I would highly recommend ordering them. They all have such great flavors that just thinking about it is making me salivate! When my boyfriend and I got our Risotto my boyfriend got a spoonful and tasted something rubbery and took it out of his mouth.
It looked so similar to the mushrooms in the dish! We called this to our server's attention and he brought the dish back to the kitchen and offered to give us a new Risotto. Later the chef stopped by our table to give us our new Risotto and explained that the rubbery thing my boyfriend almost ate was a piece that came off their of rubber spatula that they used to cook the dish! He apologized and we got the dish for free! Uncle Lou's Fried Chicken was really good too! But since that's always on the menu I feel like you have more of a chance to try it. The chicken had a nice spice to it, but a part of it felt like I could almost get chicken like that anywhere.
The drinks I ordered were the Yacht Rock and Queen Bee! Both were also super good. I loved the cute little lemon peel cut into the shape of a crown on the Queen Bee drink! I was able to actually feel a little buzzed with just two.
(Thank god because these drinks were not cheap!) Overall, the experience was just absolutely amazing! The only thing that made me a little sad was that I wasn't offered any sort of free dessert for my 21st birthday:'( but maybe it's because the Risotto was already free haha Please come here if you haven't already! Truly an amazing restaurant that you will not regret going to. I will definitely be back!
About the Playground The Go Playground is a web service that runs on 's servers. The service receives a Go program, compiles, links, and runs the program inside a sandbox, then returns the output. There are limitations to the programs that can be run in the playground:. The playground can use most of the standard library, with some exceptions. The only communication a playground program has to the outside world is by writing to standard output and standard error. In the playground the time begins at 2009-11-10 23:00:00 UTC (determining the significance of this date is an exercise for the reader). This makes it easier to cache programs by giving them deterministic output.
There are also limits on execution time and on CPU and memory usage. The article ' describes how the playground is implemented. The playground uses the latest stable release of Go.
To find the precise version, run. The playground service is used by more than just the official Go project ( is one other instance) and we are happy for you to use it on your own site.
