I have a Motorola SBG6580 and recently I've been having increased instances of speed fluctuations and random connection losses. I've read other posts regarding this particular modem and ISP and most seem to indicate a firmware update or unchecking 'IP Flood Detection' in the firewall settings. The most recent update SBG6580-6.5.0.0-GA-00-226-NOSH is installed and 'IP Flood Detection' is unchecked. In addition, I've been experiencing erratic speeds and connectivity problems on both the wireless and Ethernet connections.

I have tried power cycling the modem but this only temporarily helps with the speed for a few minutes and I've also tried the cmd ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew as recommended by Comcast, but the problem persists. Can someone please advise?

I've been running into this problem and haven't been able to find answers online. I have had this issue with multiple routers and been able to narrow it down to Gigabit port issues. Whenever my router restarts, the port speed is limited to 10 down / 10 up. I have to factory reset the modem, sometimes multiple times, before my speed returns to normal 60 down / 10 up.

I believe this has something to do with a power saving mode present is some firmware that limits the gigabit port to a 10 mbps max port, but I have no way of knowing for sure or disabling the switch. Any advice would be appreciated. Hello all, I first had Comcast internet installed Dec. I bought a Motorola SB6141 brand new from Best Buy to use with my service. Within a week after the initial installation, my modem would reset on a daily basis or simply lose its IP address.

I called Comcast and they said it was my modem. I had a hard time believing that it was my modem and so did the agent from Comcast Phone support, so they sent out a tech. Turns out that the coax cables used during the first installation were “spliced incorrectly”. During the tech visit, he mentioned high noise levels coming from the wall coax outlet. He said the new cables should fix the modem resets but if the problem continued to call them back. I asked him to check the line coming in but he said it wasn’t necessary.

Internet service worked for another week and the modem started resetting and losing IP address once again. Every time this happens I have to power cycle the modem for it to work. I’ve been logging how often this problem happens and it appears to be every 12 hrs. Would anyone please take a look at my log files and let me know what they think? From the research I’ve done it appears that the power levels are out of range. Could this be what is causing my connectivity issues? Or, are these indications that indeed I do have a faulty modem?

Thanks in advance. I am trying to get my surfboard to allow remote admin. I have checked the user guide and no info there on Remote Config Management.

So far have enabled Remote Config Management and tried to use portforward.com info to forward port 4899 UDP & TCP to router 192.168.0.0. Also tried port 8080. Portforward is fuzzy on the actual IP to forward and leaves the entry blank. My router will not go blank but auto fills with '0'.

I also tried 192.168.0.1. My URL always comes back 'web site not available' or 'timed out'. Can anyone help me set up remote admin on this router? Happy Trails. Planning to take advantage of Suddenlink's new speed upgrade here so I need to get a new docsis 3.0 modem.

After sizing up the options, reading reviews and so forth, to the meager limits of my expertise, I'm most interested in either the Motorola 6180 or the Arris CM820. They're both approved by Suddenlink. The data sheets for both seem to be very similar, I think they're made/offered by the same people but the price for the Arris is significantly lower. Is the Arris a less desirable modem?

Data sheets Motorola SB6180: Arris CM820: Thanks so much for any guidance, opinions or anything you can tell me about these. Lowe boat serial number lookup. Just purchased a used SBG6580 to replace my SBG900 that I've had for several years, which works but has occasional wifi issues and isn't up to date.

The used SBG6580 is wifi secured, and came with a non-default administrative username/pw, which normally would be a non-issue since I would just reset it with the pinhole button, but this must be a first generation unit (or perhaps, although this is pure speculation. A special version for cable companies??) because it has no color coded panel on the back, no USB port on the back, and no factory reset button next to the USB port as shown in the online manual. The back is just aluminum with 4 network ports, the power port, and the coax port. The only button I can find anywhere on the unit is the rectangular pairing button on the front. I've contacted the seller and requested the admin un/pw but I suspect he won't have it, since in the listing he said he tested the unit and it's A-ok(which implies he hadn't been using it himself), and then I have to deal with trying to get that person to take it back, when most likely the unit works just fine if I can get it reset. Can anybody help??? Hi All- I have been using an old Speedstream 4100 modem in bridge mode in front of a Belkin N router-pppoe is set on the computer (router actually) on ATT DSL service.

I obtained an ATT Motorola 3360 DSL modem, hooked it up to my system, set the pppoe to be on the computer (just like the old speedstream unit), but when I hooked up the router I had no internet connection. I removed the router and wired the router between the phone line and the ethernet cable, switched back to pppoe on the modem, entered my credentials and was able to connect to the internet. I then hooked up the speedstream with the router and was able to obtain internet access thereby verifiying correct login in info resident in router. What am I doing wrong? Why can't I connect to the internet when the 3360 is in the bridge mode with a previously correctly configured Belkin router but am able to do it with an advanced aged speedstream modem? Thank you in advance! A few months ago, I had to replace my old modem with this one when my old modem (which was a dinosaur) just plain died.

It's been working fine for the most part for the last few months. Except for one peculiar issue that's cropped up somewhat recently: The Wi-Fi drops, even if the object is in the same room as the modem. Devices will claim to not be able to get a connection even though they show they're still connected.

Basically it happens every few days. Temporarily it can be worked around by the wireless device disconnecting and reconnecting to the modem, but that's a crapshoot until I actually decide to power-cycle the unit - which will then cure it until the next time it decides to do that. My wired connection remains fine throughout.

If anyone's got any advice on how to handle this, it'd be much appreciated. I finally got around to turning the syslog on for my cablemodem (Motorola Surfboard SBG6580) and I'm seeing about the expected amount of inbound attackage being blocked.
